Tony Furtado

On November 22nd, 2008, Tony Furtado played Coolwater. Some last minute shuffling around provided me with an opportunity to host this musician, who I have been wanting to fit into the schedule almost since the series started 5 years ago. Tony's down to earth, personable self warmed the crowd and his flawless Keith picking on the banjo blew my mind. He plays the banjo like some might play a classical guitar. All my banjo jokes are out the window, as he made the instrument absolutely sing. And singing is another of Tony's strong suits. His voice is impassioned, beautiful and lends itself perfectly to his self defined genre of blues/folk/literary banjo.

Then we get to his slide playing. I've always been a sucker for slide guitar. Tony was positively amazing, and his 1940's Martin caught every precise intonation. This is a show I wish I could replay. I hope to get him back one of these days. A big thanks to Tony as well as to Susie at Fleming Artists for helping to make this show possible. I'm still glowing from the positive energy, good vibes and phenomenal music. :)
